Tassimo My Way uses T Discs which are an assortment of ingredients can be used to make your drink. There are over 70 different kinds, including Kenco, Costa, Milka and Cadbury's. The machine offers a variety of T discs, including those for tea and hot chocolate.

The coffee produced by this machine was of excellent quality, but slightly less than some of the other machines we reviewed. This Nespresso-compatible pod coffee maker from Lavazza which was developed in collaboration with Sage is among the most beautiful machines available. The machine is made of sturdy and attractive materials. It comes with a stylish steam wand that can be adjusted to make cappuccinos and lattes, and a stainless steel milk jug. It can make espresso, lungos, double espressos, mugs, gran lungos and altos with thick layers of foam.

Like most pod machines, you load a pod via a hatch at the top of the machine and drop it in place. The machine penetrates the capsule before closing it so that when you press the lever, the used pod is deposited into a spent pod tray beneath the drip tray.

It's not the fastest machine to brew espresso. It takes about 30 seconds for a single shot and 90 seconds for the lungo. However, the results are always impressive with a smooth, rich flavor and a great crema. The machine will also notify you when it's time to refill the water tank or pod bin.

The main selling point of this machine is that you can use it with any Lavazza-branded pod - there are seven in all, including ground roasted espresso (Qualita Rossa, Intenso, Passionale and Delizioso) Two decaffeinated (Dek Cremoso) and two organic coffees (!Tierra! Bio). The pod coffee maker isn't expensive, but if you pair it with a pod delivery subscription it can cost similar to the cost of a regular bean-to cup machine. Nespresso machines are among the best pods coffee makers for those looking for a reliable, speedy and consistently brewed cup. They are quick to heat up and are incredibly simple to use. Simply put a capsule in, push a button and you're done. They also create a rich crema that can be added to your drinks to add thickness and flavor. They're not cheap however, and you have to purchase their official pods.

The Vertuo line utilizes a different technology than OriginalLine machines that work with espresso capsules (and still exist). The Vertuo line is able to read the barcode on each capsule, and then automatically adjusts the brewing parameters to create the perfect cup. They also have a centrifusion machine which spins the capsules to extract the most flavor and thickest crema.

That said, the machines aren't as intuitive as some of our other choices. The lid opens only when the machine is ready and it takes around 30 seconds for the capsule to get hot. The machine doesn't come with milk frothers as do other pod coffee machines capsules makers listed on this list, meaning you'll need an additional PS90 or so to purchase a separate Aeroccino in order to make lattes and cappuccinos.

These machines also require more maintenance than other models - filling the water tank and emptying pod containers that are used and descaling - but they have an app that reminds you to do these tasks, and provides tools such as capsule recyclers and store locators. If you connect your machine to an IntelliPort, you can even use voice commands to control it which is a great feature for those who make coffee in the dark at 4am, or have weak hands.

If you're looking to dress up your daily joe even more, it comes with three different filter baskets that allow for different capsule types. You can use loose-ground beans (although the use of a separate grinder is required).

The SMEG Barista Pod Machine doesn't include a milk pitcher however, it does come with an inbuilt Pannarello milk frother that froths soymilk and cow milk quite nicely. It also comes with the portafilter 51mm, which is smaller than a conventional commercial-style filter. It's pressurised, which means you won't get the stale, leftover taste. It comes with a plastic tamper that can also be used as spoon.

The SMEG is the most expensive machine we've reviewed. It's a good investment it if you're retro or you love making espresso drinks quickly. This is a great option when you're new to the art of making coffee and don't need to go through the difficulty of measuring, grinding and tamping the beans yourself.
