Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to improve their weapons and equipment with new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item upgrader mod or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into a stronger base. Items with bases that are strong, such as Titans from eth, have no change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They give you an attribute bonus or additional effect, when the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, found in loot from enemies, or obtained from chests and missions. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain level before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade statistics will be as well as the required component or material needed for the upgrade to take place.

There are three types of universal upgrades (which include gems), prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, which include gems, can be put in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are gems that are only available in legendary and ascended equipment. They offer the same benefits as jewels, but they cannot be used in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades, which can be placed in gathering tools, will add their names to the end of the name of the item they are attached to, for example adding the word Glyph to an item upgrade that is a Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor would make it a Canthan Staff Wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If the player upgrades their gathering tool, and replaces glyphs with another glyph the previous one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, with the exception of inscriptions which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from previous versions. Gear is now categorized in tracks, and each item is able to be upgraded a certain number of times before it is "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, however the materials needed do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a handful of important items to maximize their impact, instead of spreading the upgrade costs across multiple items.

This will allow the item to receive upgraded components and a higher chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy. It will reset to 0 if the upgrade fails or increases if the upgrade succeeds.

When a piece of equipment is upgraded to its maximum level it is able to be given affixes that boost its attributes. The number of affixes that are available is determined by the item's type. For example, a rare or unique weapon that has a standard base will have only two affixes to choose from and legendary armors can have up to eight affixes for it.

Each upgrade process requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, based on the type of item at its current level and in what slot it is located in. Typically, weapons require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.

If an item does not get to its maximum level the NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with another set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours, and costs the same amount of material. However, it has a lower success rate.

To measure the height of a building, engineers will employ an instrument to compare the measurement to an established reference point like a benchmark or the ground's elevation. This process is called a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the backsight rod and level and then turning the level and taking the foresight rod reading. This method helps ensure that buildings are constructed to a high standard of safety and accuracy.

Rerolling

Rerolling refers to the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial aspect of the game and can significantly improve an item's strength and damage as well as other attributes. This can be done through the menu for items or by clicking the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling items can be costly and should be used sparingly.

The game allows players to recycle upgraded items, which are used to obtain tokens for rerolls. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or a similar item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the degree of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled depends on the rarity and cost of upgrading of the item.

Prior to this, some upgrade items were given priority affixes that made them more accessible for players to roll. This meant that you'd receive the stats that mattered most to your build more often than other. This included things like the armor's total armor, thorns, and control impaired duration reduction stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This has changed since the last patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chance of rolling for each stat. This can be a good or a negative thing depending on your needs and wants from your equipment.

Each upgraded item may come with a bonus that increases the item's power by a set percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are added to the normal affixes. The more you improve an item, the higher the chance of receiving the bonus of your choice.

The game also comes with a number of sets, which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are installed on a unit. This is a good way to give a character a lot more power without spending a ton of money.

Sets

To see if an item is worth upgrading, players must click the Upgrade button on the character screen. The item upgrade's attributes will be displayed as well as any necessary items. For instance the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials and 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade.
