World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance an item with the upgrade template ending in % will take on 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item upgrades is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into weapons, armor and trinkets in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor.
