How to Replace an audi tt key case G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor replacement audi key fob (https://buketik39.ru) sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes however the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. If you're having issues with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I get zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, but i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

Some of the symptoms of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement. The good news is they are very cheap and easily accessible particularly when you're looking at an Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternately, GM's version this part would be an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi q3 key, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. When this sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission and the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the audi remote key 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
