WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level Upgrade level by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader mod upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current item level. For example weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement and a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was modified a bit, and several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item upgrader mod level will cost less even if they belong to a different gear set.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for gear of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
