Item upgrading allows players to boost the gear score of an item to 700 and also add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory and heading to the kiln.

It is possible to upgrade armor items to increase their stats. This will increase the base defense of a chest or helm as well as belts and gloves. You can't upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior then you should concentrate on upgrading your armor to increase physical strength or the power of spells. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you'll wear for the final boss battle as well as the Monter Parts merchant's mask.

To upgrade a potion, click right on it in your inventory and select the "Upgrade" option from the menu. This will open a GUI that allows you to select the potions that you wish to upgrade, and the amount of experience they'll give you when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches up to five at a time, and their XP will be added to the total XP you currently have.

Once a potion is upgraded, it will not be degraded until you use it again, or break the bottle it's stored in. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will also allow you to change the name of the potion.

Version 1.7.2 brought a few changes to the mechanics of potions. Splash potions, for instance have now a duration of 0:08 instead of the 22.5 seconds displayed on the hover display for the item upgrade. The potion table is constructed from four Wood Planks, and two Glass. It can be used in both Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons like Java Edition. The same is true for the use of a potion in the cauldron that is filled. This will drain the potion and refill the bottle.

Finally, there are lingering potions that are brewed using splash and dragon breath potions. Redstone can be added to lingering potions to enhance their effects. Players should upgrade their most important items first. This means that the Best item upgrade-in slot items for each class are first upgraded before their secondary gear and other pieces of equipment they won't replace anytime soon (such as rings or cloaks).
