Door Handle replacement handles for windows

Door handles may seem like an insignificant thing however, if you don't like the way they look or are finding them difficult to use, it's worth replacing them. Installing the new handle on your door is simple if you have patience.

The majority of modern door handles come with cover plates that hide the screws to create a stylish appearance. However, you'll have to attach them separately if the new handle does not already have them.

Take off the handle from the old one.

After the screws have been removed the latch will slide out of the door with ease. If the latch plate is stuck or refuses to move use a small file to scrape the edges. This can sometimes free up the plate.

Now you can prepare the new strike plate to be installed. Screw the latch plate into the door jamb using the screws that were included with your new handles. Do not overtighten your screws because this could damage the strike plate.

If you're not sure if the latch plate is in the right position You can try closing and then opening the door to check whether it latches and closes correctly. If not you'll have to adjust the strikeplate upwards or down, or forward or back until the door closes correctly.

If the door still moves or jiggles, you may need to increase the size of your latch hole on the strike plate. This is more common in older doors, however it could be due to wear and tear, hinge mortises that are too shallow or are not sized correctly for the latch, or from damage or a broken strike plate. If this is the case, follow the same procedure to adjust the strike plate, but with the use of a metal file instead an hammer and chisel.

Remove the Latch

The latch is a bent metal piece which slides in and out of a hole in the inside of your door. The latch is pushed forward when you turn the handle. It also connects to a hole in the frame of the external door handles (just click lovewiki.faith) to keep your door shut. If your door wiggles when you close it, replacing the latch may be all that's needed to fix it.

Removal of the Cover Plate
